Cultural youth exchanges within Canada

International Folklore Festivals

Canary Islands, 2023

PhilCAS spent 10 days on the island of Tenerife. Participating in the 4th International festival for the City of Candelaria as well as the International Folk dance and Music Festival for the city of El Medano. Due to the forest fires most of the festival dates were cancelled. 

Portugal, 2019

PhilCAS spent two weeks in Portugal and participated in two festivals. They spent their first festival in the town of Monção to participate in O Mundo A Dancar Folk Monção. PhilCAS then spent their second festival in the city of Guimarães to participate in Fest’In Folk Corredoura.

 

Spain, 2015

PhilCAS spent 10 days in Spain’s northwestern region of Galicia. Participating in Xornadas de Folklore de Ourense.

Turkey, 2012

PhilCAS spent 10 unforgettable days in the Kucukcekmece region of Istanbul, Turkey. PhilCAS performed for the Dragon Boat Lake Festival as well as bonded with both the locals and the performers involved in the festival.

 

Italy, 2008

PhilCAS spent three weeks in four Italian towns and cities: three days in Moliterno, a week in Roccalumera, a week in Caltavuturo, and five days in Agrigento, where they showcased their Filipino culture through folk dance.

 

Holland, 2006

PhilCAS was invited to two multicultural festivals in Holland for two weeks (from July 30 to August 14) and showed different countries just a handful of what the Philippines has to offer.

Mabuhay 2023 - 20th Anniversary Show

This event included Filipino food for everyone to try and a photo booth where people can take pictures with the performers in costume.

PhilCAS is proud to present its second Children’s Dance Workshop, this time with a mixture of children and teens. It’s a fourteen week program that will give them, the children, the chance to learn the traditional dances of the Philippines.

Kamloops, 2007

PhilCAS was invited to an event sponsored by the FILCAN Association in Kamloops. This is PhilCAS of BC’s second performance in Kamloops held at the same venue. The first one was back in May of 2000.

Bagong Anyo, 2005

With lots of interested kids and teens joining the society, PhilCAS delivered a show called Bagong Anyo which means “New Face”.

The newbies were trained by the senior performers and in the end, joined forces with them to deliver an hour long spectacle, filled with Philippine folk music and dance.

BRAVO Pilipinas, 2002

“Celebrating the best of Filipino dance and music”

PhilCAS of BC and Kababayang Pilipino of Surrey collaborated and became PPAG (Philippine Performing Arts Guild), for this highly anticipated special event.

This is also PhilCAS of BC’s first live theatre performance.

Pasko, 2000

With the previous year’s smashing success, Lahi, now known as PhilCAS of BC, continued the tradision by holding a second fundraiser during the Christmas holidays.

With new dances and more experience, the performers gave the audience a professional and entertaining performance.

Pamaskong Handog, 1999

Lahi Cultural Arts Society’s 1st fundraiser.

Just in time for the holidays, the theme for this event was celebrating the Christmas season. It was such a huge success that people were coming in even after the event was sold out.
